Okay, I decided to jump into and do the Sofobomo project for 2009.

Theme : One minute long exposures of different parts of NYC
Working Title : New york minute
Start Date: May 12th 2009
End Date: June 12th 2009

The theme was very easy for me to choose because I love long exposures at night. I am having a little trouble though because the sun is setting at 8pm nowadays and it doesn’t get dark enough to get correctly exposed photos! I end up having to use F22 and because of that I’m getting lens diffraction which causes my photos to be a bit softer. To solve that problem, I bought a B+W 10stop nd filter hoping to aid in getting longer exposures during sunset so that I do not stay out that late. Too bad the weather is going to be rainy all weekend, I really wanted to test it out.

So far I have taken 7 out of the minimum 35 pictures with the following locations:

• Brooklyn Bridge
• Manhattan Bridge
• Manhattan Bridge gate
• Brooklyn Heights Promenade
• Chinatown
• Battery Park
• Staten Island Ferry Terminal

I might want to redo the Chinatown and Brooklyn Heights Promenade pictures as I’m not really too happy with how they came out. For now they will be candidates for the book, just in case I run out of time before I can re-visit the location. So far I only really like two of the seven I have taken, maybe just cause I’m being a little picky. But then again this is my book that I’ll be working on and eventually want to print out, so being picky is okay I guess.

Hopefully I finish this book in time, I love the challenge of time constraints. Nothing gets me more motivated than having to finish something by a certain time.
